Professor Simon Parsons is a major figure in argumentation theory, having
contributed
extensively to work on argumentation for decision-making and more recently
having
played a foundational role on argument-based negotiation systems. He has
published
many influential papers in these areas and is author of the standard text on
qualitative methods for reasoning under uncertainty (MIT Press, 2001).
He is the co-editor-in-chief of the journal "Knowledge Engineering Review",
and in 1998 he was winner of an Outstanding Achievement Medal for his work
in Intelligent Systems from the IEE (UK). For several years, he has
organized an international workshop on Game-Theoretic and Decision-Theoretic
Agents (GTDT), and has been a program committee member of many leading
conferences and workshops. During 2004, he was the local co-chair of the
International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agents
Systems, held in New York City in July.
